Toronto recently opened a direct rail link between Pearson International Airport and Toronto Union Station. The project involved building a 3km, elevated rail spur from an existing commuter line to a new station at the airport. It offers lessons for connecting trains directly to the O'Hare Terminals.
The line uses high-performance diesel multiple unit trains that can be converted to electric trains in the future. Similar equipment could be used in Chicago to provide top-of-the-line service immediately and leave flexibility for electrification in the future.
